Fitness with the New Year 2014!

Thinking about making some new resolutions this coming year? Why not start 2014 with a new commitment to get your fit in and recruit your buddies too!

According to CDC, 18-64 year-olds only need 150min of moderate exercise weekly with 2x strength training or 75min of rigorous exercise with twice a week strength training - very doable!! 

Here are some events/ideas to start the year off right:

Crossfit Bluegrass - Free New Year's Eve WOD - Open to the Public - 9am

Paoli Peaks NYE - Celebrate New Year's Eve with the family - skiing! Exercise, fun, and family bonding!

Perfect North Slopes - Celebrate New Year's Eve with a parade and fireworks and of course skiing

Fairmont Falls Hike (2m) - Jefferson Memorial Forest - Jan. 1, 9am "Due to extremely limited parking at the Falls, please meet in the shopping center parking lot at the corner of Bardstown Road and Thixton Lane. Groups will leave in staggered carpools to the Falls location. "

Commitment Day 5K - Iroquois Park - Jan. 1- Kids 18 and under run free with a paying adult!


Hangover Classic 10miler and 5K - Jan. 1- Course goes through Butchertown and River Rd. In 2005, Runner's World named this 10miler to the top 10 10miler race in the nation.

Resolution Run - Jan. 1- 5m or 3K- Lexington, KY

Move to Move Shine: A Day Long Urban Retreat - Yoga - Shine - Jan. 1 - "This all day series of workshops is brought to you by some of the remarkable Shine teachers. Begin your New Year with Shine!
Nine incredible workshops to inspire, challenge and spark your New Year!"


Winter Walks - The Parklands - Jan 4 -  "Enjoy the crisp air, small crowds, and beautiful vistas during our winter walks this season. Learn new ways to identify your favorite trees, search for signs of animals, and enjoy the beauty of our winter wonderland. Hike 2 in this series explores the Coppiced Woods Trail in Beckley Creek Park.Participants should dress for the weather."

Open Kayak Pool Sessions - Jan 5- Frankfort, KY- "This is a great opportunity for beginners and seasoned kayakers. Learn about padding, strokes, perfecting the roll, sanding up in a fishing kayak, mid-water re-entries and more. Everything is in an environment that is beginner friendly. Hosted by Canoe Kentucky, the Canoe Kentucky Pro Fishing Team and the Frankfort YMCA. Sessions are open for any paddlers of any skill range. CrossFit -  "Join us along with CrossFit The Ville at their new location - 721 E Main Street - for a complimentary workout each Monday in January! Our very own Educator and CrossFit badass Lindy Barber will be leading a 45 minute session each week which can be scaled to your individual fitness level."

100 Days Challenge - Just move intentionally for 30 minutes for the first 100 days of 2014.

Ice Skating - Enjoy some family time ice skating at Iceland or  Alpine on New Year's Day
